Originally called "The White Walls" for the white walls built around it, this city was built on the border between Upper and Lower-Egypt, located where the Nile splits up to form the Nile Delta. During the Old Kingdom, the city was the nation's capitol and served as the Pharaohs primary home. Memphis was also the the principal place to the god Ptah, who was known as the creator-god in this region.
